What Should My Child Wear To Class? Please read in full!

Girls: A leotard or unitard is preferred (avoid leotards with skirts attached). Knit shorts or leggings with a fitted t-shirt. **t-shirt must be tight enough to stay in place or tucked in at all times. ** NO 2-piece outfits – gymnast’s entire mid-section should be covered, please. Pants should not hang below ankles. Underpants should be worn under leotards. Hair needs to be secured away from the face in a pony tail if hair is any longer than shoulder length. NO jewelry (dangly earrings, necklaces, fit-bits, watches, bracelets, etc) should be worn. Please, NO socks or footed tights as they pose a safety risk while on the equipment.

Boys: Shorts or pants with no snaps or zippers, which do not hang lower than the ankle, along with an appropriately sized t-shirt should be worn. NO fit-bits or watches. NO socks.

What Will My Child Learn In Class?

Each athlete will have an opportunity to use all the appropriate gymnastics equipment each week. During each session, our goal is to introduce and help your child master skills suitable to their age and level of experience in each event (bars, beam, vault and floor as well as trampoline…the only time we don’t do all events is in Tumbling and Ninja-nastics classes).  Remember, you will see a lot of repetition in gymnastics skills/stations as it is important for gymnasts to be consistent in their mastery of skills and have proper form/technique before we can safely move on to other skills.

How Do We Get the Most Out of Our Classes?

We highly recommend reviewing body shapes and flexibility skills such as pikes, straddles, splits and bridges at home! Attendance in class is important as we focus on different skills each week.  So, please be in your class if at all possible each week.  Also, remember that gymnastics takes lot of energy! Make sure your child has had something to eat within a few hours of class.  It is also a good idea to bring a water bottle LABELED WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME to class each week. If they don’t want to bring one, or forget, we have water fountains to use here.

What If My Child Wants More of a Challenge?

We move children to more advanced classes at the beginning of a new session as they show consistency and mastery of key skills.  If your child would like more of a challenge, or would like to work specific skills we recommend attending open gym, monthly skill clinics, enrolling in more than one class per week or setting up a private lesson with your favorite Red Cedar coach. IF you have any questions about your child’s progress, please be sure to speak with your child’s teacher before/after class so they are well aware of your child’s goals.

What If I Miss A Class?

Call or stop by the office to arrange a make-up AFTER you have missed your regular class. Each student is permitted two make ups per session. If you cannot find a day/time to do a makeup within the session, you can get an open gym pass to use at your convenience.

Week 6: Priority Enrollment Begins. Be sure to enroll now for next session to save your current space.
Week 7: Open Enrollment Begins for new and returning members
Week 9: Report cards go home

Been sick? On vacation? Need to make up a class?
We understand that while things occur that can take you out of the gym, consistency in your child’s training and classes are important. That is why we allow for 3 make-ups per session for our currently enrolled students in our tumbling and gymnastics classes, provided there is room in the class. These can be scheduled AFTER your child has missed their regular class. Unfortunately, because of unique nature of these classes, we cannot provide make-ups for private classes.

If you cannot find a class that works with your schedule our office staff will provide you with a complimentary pass for Play & Learn or Open Gym to be used at your convenience. If you find that your current class day/time no longer works with your schedule please stop by the customer service counter and they will assist you in finding a new class, based on availability. ALL MAKE UPS REQUIRE PRIOR REGISTRATION!

Our intent is to remain open as long as safe travel is possible for our families and staff to come to the gym when approached with reasonable caution.

****The best way to ensure staying up to date on closings/events at RCG, please be sure to provide the office with an email address to reach you at and “like” Red Cedar Gymnastics on Facebook.

You should presume that RCG is open and all classes and activities will run as scheduled regardless of any area school district announcements.

If we determine that poor driving conditions have made it necessary for RCG to close we will announce this information in the following manner:

For morning classes and activities (those that start before 1PM):
We will announce this information through an email blast and on Facebook by 7:30AM. The gym will open at 2PM on these days for all regularly scheduled afternoon and evening activities unless otherwise announced.

For afternoon and/or evening activities (those that start after 2PM)
We will make an announcement via email and Facebook by 2PM. The gym will reopen at our normal time on the next business day unless otherwise announced.

We will make an announcement via email blast and on Facebook by 7:30AM. The gym will reopen at our normal time on the next business day unless otherwise announced.

If you have a private event scheduled, such as a birthday party, contact the emergency contact person on your contract to discuss your options.

If it is necessary to close after our programming for the day has started an announcement will be made via email blast and on Facebook 1.5-2 hours before the time we intend to close the gym.

All students in our building at the time this decision is made will be aided in contacting their parents to arrange pick up.

Our first priority is to reach our members directly. Therefore, we will use email blasts and Facebook messages to contact our members in the event we need to close for weather. Our web site will only be updated after these messages have been sent and if time, staffing and conditions permit.

While we may decide to remain open, you may decide that your drive is too hazardous. By all means, please do not drive into the gym if you feel it is unsafe! You can use one of your make-ups to replace the class or practice that you miss.

If you miss a class because we are forced to close due to weather, contact the office to arrange a make-up class or request a complimentary Open gym/Play & Learn pass to be used at your convenience.

Our main sources of communicating with our families are email and Facebook. If you haven’t registered your email with the office, please click here. We also encourage you to like us on Facebook (link to Facebook).

A refund will be granted if you withdraw prior to the first day of the session or within 24 hours of a new registration. A credit for classes that are unattended will be issued only when an injury or illness, along with a doctor’s note, prohibits the student from attending the remainder of the session’s classes.  Outside of injury or illness, NO refunds or credits will be granted for any reason you choose not to finish your session you’ve begun.
